Jake spiro (ken's comic strip)
(from 2000 - 2004)

About the comic (from Ken Manning)
"The idea for Jake first came into my head sometime in the late 1980's & early 90's, after my favorite restaurant ShowBiz Pizza Place closed down and changed into something I didn't like anymore. I wanted to design my own character, but lost the place where I wanted it to go. But once conceived, Jake wouldn't leave, so he stayed with me, until I drew my first strips of him in 1991. (Registered USLOC.) Then from 2000 to 2004, I drew a weekly strip of him which got published in the Islander, a Pensacola Beach volunteer community newspaper. Supporting characters came later: Turkey Duck, Ghost Crab, Perdido Beach Mouse, and Logger the Sea Turtle. (Plus a mysterious girlfriend, still yet to be named.) Jake appeared again in a series of commissioned art panels for UZ artist Russ Maines, in his video "Like I Du" in 2023. I hope to release Jake in published form again, in a series of compiled comic strip collector's books, like other great strip artists: Charles Schulz (Peanuts) Hal Ketchum (Dennis the Menace) Mort Walker (Beetle Bailey) Jim Davis (Garfield) and many more."
